About us at the Company of Sixty |
|
History of the ClubCompany of Sixty was founded in 1973 in the 'sixty acre wood' behind Chessington Zoo in Surrey hence the name Company of Sixty. In those days the club gave the land owner a 'liquid' christmas present for the use of the woods. In 1988 the whole estate went into trust, and the new trustees leased the woods to a paint ball company for a lot more than few drinks, which the club could not aford compete with. After losing the woods at Chessington the club looked for new grounds. Eventually Carol Edwards, and her father Jim, wrote to HRH Prince Charles, who had shown a great interest in the raising of the 'Mary Rose'. Much to the amazement of the club. instructions were sent to the Crown Estate office in Windsor to give the club the use of 100 acres of woodland in Oxshott Surrey, to be used by members 365 days of the year, where the club is still based. The club runs ten to twelve friendly shoots per year, plus four open shoots. NFAS classes shot are: AFB, Barebow, Bowhunter, Hunting Tackle, Longbow and Primitive . All shooting to be without the aid of a sight (by order of the landlords).
